Village Market, in Honor of Rick Young: A Family Legacy Serving Elk Rapids for 52 Years

For more than five decades, Village Market has been a cornerstone of the Elk Rapids, Michigan, community. Founded as a small local grocery store, the business was purchased in 1974 by Rick Young from previous owner Don Pazolo. Through Rick’s vision, hard work and dedication to customer service, Village Market grew into much more than a grocery store—it evolved into a modern, family-owned-and-operated grocery store and gas station that continues to serve residents with fresh products, friendly service and a deep commitment to the community.

Rick was known not only for his commitment to the business but also for his generosity, community spirit and deep pride in Elk Rapids. Alongside his family, he helped build a business rooted in service, relationships and giving back to the community that has supported it for generations.

Today, under the leadership of owner and general manager Kevin Young, the business operates two locations and employs more than 100 full- and part-time team members year-round. With winter renovations now complete, the store is refreshed and ready for the season ahead.

As the 2026 Elk Rapids Harbor Days Parade Grand Marshal, Village Market is being honored in recognition of the Young family’s 52 years of service and the lasting legacy Rick created in the Elk Rapids community.
